Starting your studies is exciting and certainly associated with some questions. To make the start as easy as possible, the most important information is presented here.

Start of Studies

Start of studies: Teaching Degree Bachelor

If you have your Abitur and would like to start studying to become a computer science teacher, you need German language skills at C1 level or DSH-II.

In addition to computer science, you choose a second subject from the RWTH catalog. The educational science course is compulsory and is part of the training.

In Aachen, you can choose between four different teacher training courses, the “study program models”: You decide on a school type (1) GyGe or BK. If the vocational college suits you best, choose the weighting of the two subjects equally (2) or unequally (3) weighted. The fourth model is the vocational dual Master's (4).

The SelfAssessment Teaching Degree serves as support, orientation and confirmation for your choice of studies. After completing it, you will receive a certificate that is required for enrolment.

The preliminary courses offer excellent preparation for the course content and a good opportunity to get to know your future fellow students even before the semester begins. An opportunity not to be missed.

For the teaching subject of computer science, we particularly recommend attending the preliminary mathematics course. Here the school material is repeated at university level and possible gaps are closed.

The computer science pre-course is aimed at students with little or no programming experience.
The two preliminary courses overlap, so we advise you to attend the mathematics course in any case and only take the shorter computer science course at the end.

What if the 2nd subject is subject to admission restrictions?

This means that this subject is subject to a NC and you must apply for it beforehand.

This means that enrollment in the teaching profession is only possible if the admissions for two teaching subjects are available.

The preliminary courses take place in the weeks before the start of the semester. Registration is required and can take place before enrolment.</span
